Reading a Poem: A Guide for the Perplexed

This from the Atlantic– I think twenty ideas on how to go about reading a poem is about a dozen too many, but there are some good suggestions here. I especially like #8, #12, and #14. And you can’t go wrong with #6.

  1. Poetry lovers are everywhere! A colleague just sent me the same link. I agree with your top picks, and of course the medievalist in me needs to include #13 (marginalia!). But, yes, it’s too long.
